Who We Are
The Ontario Smart Growth Network brings together organizations that are working to stop urban sprawl and promote sustainable, compact and healthy communities across Ontario.  The network is part of a broader North American smart growth movement involving national, provincial and state-wide organizations as well as local community organizations.

Our goals are:

  1. Stop urban sprawl

  2. Foster healthy communities

  3. Support community involvement in planning

Mission
Our mission is to promote a healthy environment, healthy communities, and sustainable local economies through smart land use, transportation and community design in Ontario.

We will achieve this mission by:

  • working with governments, developers, landowners, professionals and residents to promote and achieve smart growth;

  • empowering residents to participate effectively in community planning and decision-making; and

  • opposing government policies and infrastructure and development proposals that perpetuate, encourage or facilitate urban sprawl.

Our Principles: Our guiding principles reflect the goals of the North American smart growth movement.  Our application of the principles reflects the current priorities for Ontario.

Our membership: Groups from across Ontario have joined the network, representing provincial, local and neighbourhood interests and environmental, social, environmental, health, economic, and transportation issues.

Join Us: If your organization can contribute to our goals and would benefit from being part of a provincial support network, then you should sign up.  No group is too small, or too large!

Activities: This is a member-driven network.  We support each other's areas of expertise and develop projects and partnerships to address emerging opportunities and priorities.

Seminars: The OSGN offers occasional seminars on how to make Smart Growth work in Ontario.

Community Visions: The OSGN is helping communities handle growth through urban village design.

Links: We are not alone.  Smart growth is a North American movement, with tremendous resources available on the internet.

Make a Donation: We need your help.  Support the activities of one of our members, or make a donation to the Conservation Council of Ontario's Smart Growth Campaign to support the entire network.
