Winter Time

Make an investment in energy efficiency and home comfort.  Draftproofing is an easy first step, but if you are going to apply for a rebate you should consider having your home audited before you start any work.
  1. Stop Gap Measures.  Check for drafts around doors, windows and floorboards.  All these little gaps can add up to the equivalent of a large hole in your wall.  A little draftproofing and weatherstripping can save a bundle and increase your wintertime comfort

  2. Audit your home.  The federal Energuide for Houses program will give you a thorough energy audit of your home and recommend the best options for improving energy efficiency and home comfort.  Contact the Green Communities Canada (GCC) for more information. GCC members are located in many Ontario communities.  There are also private companies that are registered agents to deliver Energuide audits.  See Energuide for Houses for a list of companies.

An audit will tell you where you should invest your time and money -- for energy savings and for comfort.

  3. Invest in conservation. Use your home energy audit as a guide to where you should invest in under the federal Climate Change Strategy, rebates of up to $3,000 per home are available, depending on the improvements in energy efficiency. See the Energuide for Houses program for details.
